Hi team! It gives me great pleasure to present my second Presidents report. (April 2010)
The United Fire Brigades Association of New Zealand Annual Conference and Road Crash Rescue Challenge was a major undertaking for this Association just a month ago. Sticking with tradition - the executive headed by Russell Hayes pulled one out of the bag to make it by far one of the most memorable conference and challenges seen to date (and then some!). To Russell and the team - words cannot express my gratitude. You did the whole Provincial area proud.
A big thanks also to the Brigades and individuals that helped out in any way, shape or form around the whole event - you know who you are!
I took the opportunity to attend the Provincial Golf Match in Ashburton last weekend. It turned out to be a stunner of a day! Thanks to Chris Ralston and the team down there for a great day with quite a turnout. It would be fantastic to see a few more at this annual event - it is a good fun day.
My congratulations go to CFO Gordon Hardacre of St Andrews for obtaining his 50 year Service Medal recently. It will certainly be one of my more treasured memories having the privilege of attending. Gordon is truly one outstanding gentleman.
Having recently met with Mid Canterbury Sub Association representation, you can rest assured that they are well on track to organising and hosting the National Drivers Challenge later this year. Please support them if called upon. It is an awesome event. Mid Canterbury are also running thier Combat Challenge this weekend in Rolleston - and by the sounds of things have an impressive amount of entries. They are also organising a couple of other Social Events. It is very heartening to see this team so active and enthused - given the demise of many Sub Associations around the country. Keep it up guys and girls!
The Association Executive have also undertaken to organise and host the National Combat Challenge this year after much to-ing and fro-ing - mainly around politics! Russ will be heading this one up, and again - please help Russ and the team out if able.
Next year it looks like Christchurch will play host to the Australasian and World Road Crash Rescue Challenges. No doubt we’ll get tied up with this one also!
It was extremely pleasing to see the South Island Waterways kick started back into life again. Steve McLennan and the Canterbury technical panel played a major role in this. Long may it continue!
The executive are busy at present organising the bi-annual Blue Skies experience. If you are unsure what this weekend comprises of - drop any of the executive a line. We are more than happy to share, as this is an outstanding weekend for the newer members of the Canterbury area, and they go away having made life long friends.
In closing, my continuing thanks to the Transalpine Region for all their ongoing support, as well as the Sub Associations.
It has been great getting out and about to your various awards evenings etc, and I must thank all those concerned for thier hospitality. I look forward to meeting many more of you over the next few months!
Cheers,
 Nigel Lilley CPFBA President
